When it comes to running your lab animal research facility, material transport carts play a big role in smooth operations. They contribute to the safety, efficiency, and organization of lab animal shifting, as well as general laboratory safety.
However, many labs make the mistake of using standardized carts, rather than carts that are customized to their needs and preferences. Doing so can dramatically impact internal operations and contribute to unnecessary risks to personnel safety.
This is especially true in the life sciences industry. Animal research facilities have very specific needs and should be using lab equipment designed for unique research purposes.
At BetterBuilt, we specialize in building material transport equipment for labs that work with customized automated washing systems. Our goal is to take the worst parts of laboratory jobs away by simplifying animal transportation and cage cleaning.
Looking to improve your laboratory’s operational efficiency? Let’s learn about six types of material transport carts you need to incorporate into your lab.
1. Material Bulk Truck
First on our list is the B236 Material Handling Bulk Truck, which can accommodate up to four mice cages or two standard rat cages per row. The maximum number of rows of cages is ten.
Each bulk material handling truck can hold two bases and is designed to be used with most kinds of cages. The locking swivel casters make transportation easy, and the entire truck hooks up to our Activ Integrated Automated Solution.
2. Half-Size Material Bulk Truck
Next up is the Half-Sized B236 Material Handling Bulk Truck. This bulk truck can also accommodate up to four mice cages or two standard rat cages per row. It offers all of the same benefits as the first option on this list, but it comes in half the size for small spaces.
3. Trolley Transport (Single Base)
The TT36 Trolley Transport is an open trolley with a top cover. It was designed to accommodate up to four standard mice cages or two standard rat cages and can also dock into the ActivIAS unit.
Like most of our carts, this trolley transport cart can be used with almost all caging types. Additionally, its components are compatible with alkaline and mild acid detergents.
4. Trolley Transport (Double-Base)
Similar to the TT36, the DT36 Trolley Transport is an open trolley with a top cover designed to accommodate four standard mice cages or two standard rat cages. However, it offers a double base instead of a single base.
This double-base format provides greater stability and maneuverability, especially when transporting bulky objects. As a result, these carts are very popular in laboratory settings in which there is the risk of running into lots of fragile equipment (or transporting fragile cargo).
5. Dual-Level Transport Cart
The DL36 Stainless Cart is a dual-level transport cart designed to accommodate four standard mice cages or two standard rat cages. Unlike the other transport carts on this list, this one is double-stacked, which allows for different storage options, special organization, and increased capacity.
Furthermore, a double-level transport cart can actually offer better ergonomics when transporting heavy or bulky materials. Lab personnel will find it easy to push several cages at once without straining themselves or a high risk of injury.
6. Stainless Steel Cart
The SC36 Stainless Cart is a fully enclosed cart designed to accommodate four standard mice cages or two standard rat cages. Despite its steel material, its components are still designed to be compatible with alkaline and mild acid detergents.
Stainless steel carts are among the most popular options amongst many laboratories due to their high functionality and ease of cleaning. Additionally, stainless steel is corrosion-resistant, which means it can withstand exposure to many of the risky materials in life sciences labs.
Looking for the Right Cart for Your Lab?
Cage transportation solutions are one of the most overlooked components in the success of a lab animal research facility. When transporting mice or rats, you need to have a system that’s quick, prevents contamination, and easily hooks up to your washing system.
At BetterBuilt, we’ve worked hard to learn how life sciences labs work and how we can best meet their needs. All of our material transport equipment for labs is carefully designed to allow for ease of use and simple cleaning – because we want to make life easier for researchers.
Improving your facility’s efficiency starts by changing how you wash and transport materials. No matter what your unique need might be, BetterBuilt is here to help you meet it with revolutionary, streamlined solutions.
